Love is all you need. But whisking away your sweetheart for a romantic city break would probably earn you a few brownie points. Here are seven places where to woo your lover this Valentine's Day.

1. Paris

 

Paris, said the timelessly lovely Audrey Hepburn, 'is always a good idea'. If you're stuck for where to take your Valentine, you can't beat the city of a thousand loved-up selfie opportunites. Yes of course, it is cliché, but don't be so cool, give in to love. Share a snog as the sun sets over the Seine, indulge in a PDA under the Eiffel Tower, but if you really want to impress your sweetheart, take him/her to Montmartre. Remember Amélie? Don't get distracted by the dishy waiter who'se a dead ringer for Mathieu Kassovitz and head to the Wall of Love in Place des Abbesses. Despite sounding like a comic take on the title of an 80s soft metal ballad, it's a work of art by Frédéric Baron. Over 600 tiles are imprinted with the words 'I love you' in all the languages of the world = selfie opp. Take their hands in yours, look long into their eyes, and declare your love, without saying a word.

2. Lisbon

 

Ah, Lisbon, city of grand Gothic cathedrals, stately museums, ancient monastries and even more heavenly pastries. This Portuguese beauty tempts those who've skipped on their porridge with the morning waft of bread from its fadistasand seduces the sweet-toothed with the empanadas de Belém of Antiga Confeitaria. But of course, music is the egg tart of love, so surfeit on sweet pastry and let the fado play long into the night.

3. Copenhagen

 

Copenhagen is the happiest city in the world, at least according to October 2013's World Happiness Report, so you're odds-on for a loving time with your Valentine. Don't moan about the price of beer, because that's not going to impress your beau. Instead, take a boat tour on the canals of Christianshavn and see how they practise free love at hippie haven Christiania. If your partner has been moaning about the price of beer, or their sore feet, leave them speechless by announcing that you have reserved a table at Noma.

4. Palermo

 

If Paris, Rome and the like are too obvious for a Valentine's city break, show your imagination by picking Palermo, 'capital' of Sicily. Tempting as it may be, resist whistling the theme from The Godfather. It won't impress your Valentine. Unless you can whistle really well. Visit the Vucciria and Ballarò markets, go to Monreale and admire the beautiful mosaics of the Dome,  walk along the beach of Mondello to admire the wintery sunset, and even climb Monte Pellegrino, which will leave you breathless! In all senses!

5. Rome

 

Eternal love could bloom in the Eternal City if you sweep them off their feet on the Spanish steps, take them in your arms by the Trevi Fountain etc, etc. Or ditch the clichés and stroll hand-in-hand through Villa Pamphili park with its heart-melting views over the city. Whatever your budget, whether you’re a princess or a lowly lad, a ‘roman holiday’ is an ideal Valentine’s break, so be Audrey and Greg Peck and live it up at the gob-smackingly gorgeous but stunningly good value Grand Hotel Del Gianicolo in Vatican City.

6. Barcelona

 

If you don't get lost in love, at least you're likely to get lost in the beguiling streets of the Barri Gòtic, the Gothic Quarter. Hopefully you won't end up arguing about who's fault it is, but instead get happily lost among vintage shops, cocktail bars and cafés. In the nearby Raval district, don't miss the 'street of the kiss', Carrer dels Petons. Legend says that men sentenced to death gave a final farewell to their wives here. Hopefully you'll be together for a lot longer than them.

7. The Italian Riviera

 

And if cities aren't your thing, how about villages? The Cinque Terre - literally 'five lands' (and less literally, 'five villages') - Vernazza, Corniglia, Monterosso, Riomaggiore and Manarola - all tumble into the Med on the cliffs of Liguria. There won't be too many tourists at Valentine's time, so you'll have all those sea views to yourself as you toast your love over a seafood platter. If you want to stroll hand-in-hand for five hours, take the scenic Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Path) which connects the five villages.You'll have a hearty appetite for love after all that exercise.

Berna encatadora!

Capital da Suiça, esta cidade é simplesmente encantadora, pelas fotos que vi na Internet.

 A cidade conta com 133 920 habitantes e estende-se por uma área de 51,6 km². É atravessada pelo rio Aar e limita-se com outras onze comunas.

Berna está inscrita no Patrimônio Cultural Mundial da UNESCO, graças ao patrimônio medieval de sua Cidade Antiga, que conseguiu atravessar os séculos.

The perfect time to visit is summer time and you will see the view from the tunnel lift. Lauterbrunnen Valley is the starting point for some of the most famous tourist destinations in the Jungfrau region. Rack railway links Lauterbrunnen to Wengen walked past on the East side of the Valley and the Kleinen Scheidegg. Impossível resistir ao charme da cidade de Giethoorn, que fica localizada na província de Overijssel, ao norte do país. 

A circulação de carros é proibida. No lugar de ruas e avenidas, lindos canais e pontes são presentes, onde é possível passear pela cidade visitando muitas lojas, restaurantes e artesanatos locais. 

No inverno, aproveite que os rios estão congelados e abuse da sua habilidade de patinação...

Não tem certeza qual é a parte mais encantadora desta cidade, mas é seguro afirmar que os edifícios de pedra calcária branca (grande parte deles construídos no século XIV) chamam ainda mais as atenções.



Cesky Krumlov, República Checa

Visite este Patrimônio Mundial da UNESCO nos meses de verão e você vai entender os motivos que fazem desta cidade uma das mais procuradas da República Checa.



Sibiu, Romênia

Esta cidade para pedestres tem um nível superior repleto de locais históricos e no nível inferior moradias cercadas por ruas de paralelepípedos. Não à toa foi eleita a Capital Europeia da Cultura em 2007.

Guarajuba (1 hora de Salvador)

O que falar deste lugar? Um dos meus favoritos...

Este município delicioso da Bahia, localizado a 70km de Salvador, é tudo de bom.Passei a minha infância e boa parte da minha adolescência indo a Guarajuba nos finais de semana e nos verões. Tudo começou com minha família alugando uma casa em um verão desses aí. Vários parentes e conhecidos queridos passavam tardes deliciosas conosco, até que decidiram alugar suas próprias casas. Depois de alguns veraneios e casas alugadas, decidimos comprar uma para que pudéssemos ter essas reuniões com mais frequência. E assim, fomos acompanhando amigos e parentes comprando suas casas e deixando o lugar cada vez mais familiar e agradável.

 Acompanhamos o crescimento do Bar do Prefeitinho, da Telma do queijo Coalho, de Dona Felipa do Acarajé... Vimos os terrenos virarem casas e pousadas, as ruas sendo asfaltadas e as praças ganhando cara de praças. As praias continuaram lindas, graças a Deus, e sempre que dá, voltamos para recarregar as energias. Descemos no aeroporto de Salvador, pegamos o carro alugado e pegamos no máximo 1 hora de estrada para lá. Rapidinho, rapidinho...

Hoje, ainda posso dizer que Guarajuba é um lugar de pouca balada e torço para que continue assim. Com pouquíssima infra, Guarajuba é um lugar de casa de veraneio mesmo, com bares na beira da praia  para passar o dia. Se tiver 5 restaurantes abertos durante a noite é muito...

Abriram o resort Vila Galés Marés lá, que inclusive é no final do município, bem perto de Itacimirim, e até existem outras pousadas também, mas o povo que vai, fica nas casas espalhadas em diversos condomínios. As pessoas passam o dia nas praias ou em suas piscinas e a noite, ficam em casa.  No verão, é comum a praça principal da cidade ficar bem cheia de pessoas e carros tocando todo tipo de música, principalmente axé. Ao redor da praça estão algumas lojinhas, supermercado, restaurantes e sorveterias. Mais perto da entrada da cidade, tem um mini shopping com outros restaurantes e lojinhas, mas muitas vezes, você encontra estes estabelecimentos fechados. Na praça, durante o verão, rola uma feirinha de artesanato bacaninha também.

Se você estiver entediado e quiser comer em um restaurante bacana ou ver gente bonita, você pode ir até Praia do Forte em 30 minutos. Lá, você vai encontrar muitos restaurantes, festas, pousadas, lojas e turistas. Tem o Projeto Tamar também que é maneiro. Vale a visita!

Mas, se quiser ficar de bobeira, nem precisa sair de Guará. As praias são ótimas, algumas com mar agitado e outras com piscininhas naturais, mas sempre com água gostosa, quentinha. Eu adoro caminhar pela areia até Itacimirim, tomar banho nas piscininhas e depois sentar no Bar de Prefeitinho, com os pés na areia e atendimento diferenciado. Talvez seja diferenciado para mim porque as pessoas me conhecem, mas nunca ouvi ninguém reclamar de lá...

Cerveja gelada, dúzias de lambreta, muitos caranguejos e moqueca de camarão sempre. Para completar, o acarajé completo de Dona Felipa (ela tem uma barraquinha bem colada ao Bar do Prefeitinho) e o queijo coalho derretido de Telminha, morena retada que não pára quieta que está aí embaixo. Telminha agora está empreendendo e colocando outras delícias em seus queijos, como calabresa, goiabada, abacaxi...tudo muito gostoso! Depois, nada melhor do que as cocadas vendidas pelas crianças que vão até a sua mesa...são ótimas. Ou quem sabe os picolés de amendoim e côco da marca Capelinha...
